Multi Hazard Mitigation Meeting Scheduled

Nelson County residents are invited to participate in the Nelson County Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan “Kick-Off Meeting”. The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00pm at the Nelson County Courthouse Community Room. The purpose of the meeting is to organize the Nelson County Multi Hazard Mitigation Planning Team, review the planning activities and lay the ground work for a successful hazard mitigation planning process.

An important part of emergency preparedness is Hazard Mitigation planning. Citizens see what happens during various events such as flooding, rural fires, tornadoes, and hazardous materials spills just to name a few. It is important we have a broad range of participation for good input at this meeting.

Through the Hazard Mitigation planning process, Nelson County and its communities can identify hazard mitigation measures. Counties with an approved Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan become eligible for Hazard Mitigation Grants which provide funding for sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risks from hazards.
